MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION:
Flexcon FL Series fiberglass pressure tanks are commonly used in well applications. A common myth is that they create pressure. Pressure tanks actually capture and hold water pressure provided by the pump. If the pump fails to provide water pressure, so will the tank. Another is that they haved to be sized according to the size of the home. Their primary use is to prevent short cycling of the pump motor. Pump motors must run a minimum amount of time after started in order for them to be cool enough for another restart. When a pump motor short cycles, overheating may occur from lack of cooling time needed which could result in motor failure. Tank sizing should be a minimum drawn down (usually 30% of overall tank size) thats equal to or greater than the GPM of the pump. The part number of the tank suggest the drawn down rating at a 30/50PSI pressure switch setting. In this case, bigger is better. The greater the tanks drawdown, the longer the pump motors cooling time will be.
NOTE: Precharge air pressure should be 2PSI below the low pressure setting of the pump pressure switch with tank empty of all water. An example might be a 30/50PSI pressure switch setting should have about 28PSI of air in a tank empty of all water. It should be tested spring and fall on a regular maintenance basis.
